Pi Network Launches Open Network After 6 Years of Development

Pi Network officially launched its Open Network on February 19, 2025. This launch opens Pi Network’s external connectivity to the global Pi community, allowing Pi’s ecosystem, innovative applications, and extensive P2P network to be integrated with the wider blockchain world.

“Open Network is a key step in realizing Pi’s mission—to create an inclusive, utility-driven, and widely adopted cryptocurrency that is accessible to everyone,” said Chengdiao Fan, one of Pi Network’s co-founders, in the Open Network launch video.

Centralized Exchange (CEX) Integration and Listing

With the launch of Open Network, Pi Network announced integrations with KYB-verified centralized exchange (CEX) platforms. These KYB-verified third-party services will help Pioneers connect with the wider cryptocurrency ecosystem and fiat world.

Pi Network emphasized caution when using exchanges or services that have not received KYB certification in order to maintain a safe ecosystem. Pioneers are advised not to use third-party services or CEXs that are not registered on the official KYB service webpage.

Business Compliance Requirements

To maintain a secure and compliant ecosystem, Pi Network requires KYC (Know Your Customer) verification for Pioneers and KYB (Know Your Business) verification for businesses to participate in mainnet blockchain activities.

KYC Verification

This is an identity verification process for individual pioneers, required to participate in mainnet activities.

KYB Certification

This is a verification procedure for businesses and is required to provide mainnet-related services.

This requirement applies to businesses (not individuals) that wish to access the Pi mainnet, mainnet nodes, or other mainnet-related services, as well as businesses that provide critical infrastructure such as on/offramps, exchanges, bridges, and Web3 wallet solutions.

Node Update

With the Open Network, the firewalls that were in place during the closed network have been removed. Now, technically anyone can add a node to the mainnet blockchain in terms of running the protocol and connecting to the network.

Node 0.5.1 was recently released to the Pie community. This update brings the following features:
